Tooth-Colored Fillings

A filling is a material used to replace a hole in a decayed tooth to restore its structure and functionality. It is important to treat cavities early to prevent further decay, pain, and infection. We offer fillings that will match the color of surrounding teeth so your smile will look complete. Call our Murray office today to learn more about this and other cosmetic dentistry treatments.

Bonding

Bonding replaces chips, cracks, and gaps in the teeth as well as corrects misshapen teeth. Bonding is done with a material called composite resin, or tooth-colored filling. This is much less invasive than metal fillings, and much safer than fillings containing mercury. Composite resin also lasts twice as long as metal fillings. Composite resin is also available in a variety of shades to fit the natural color of your surrounding teeth.

Natural-Looking Crowns

A crown or cap encases a tooth in a material to restore the tooth to its natural strength and full functionality. While some cavities can be treated with fillings, severely damaged or fragile teeth may require crowns. Crowns may also replace a filling that has worn out. The crown strengthens the tooth and smoothes over imperfections to enhance one’s smile. Before a crown is applied, the decayed portion of the tooth is removed.

An impression of the tooth is taken so the custom-made crown will fit exactly over the dimensions of the tooth. Finally, it is applied permanently to the tooth, lending support and enhancing the tooth’s appearance.

Dentists

Many AACD dentists will work to maximize your benefits, and may have suggestions for alternative methods of financing so you can obtain the treatment of choice.

A great smile should improve your self-confidence, which can have a positive impact on the social and professional aspects of your life.

Cosmetic dentistry is not just about pretty smiles though. New techniques and materials are available for back teeth as well as those seen when you smile. Now your mouth can look great, get healthy, and function better all at the same time.

Ask an AACD member dentist what’s available for you. AACD member dentists have shown a special interest in new technologies and procedures, specifically to help them achieve better results for you.

Accreditation is a rigorous test of skills in cosmetic dentistry, developed by the AACD more than 25 years ago, and supervised by the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dentists and dental laboratory technicians who carry this credential have submitted documentation and actual dental cases of exceptional work to a panel of examiners, and after a rigorous testing and peer review process, have been awarded the “AACD Accredited” designation.

If you start today, a new smile can be yours sooner than you think. Your dentist will work with you in choosing the right look for you. A smile enhancement can be made to look both dramatic and natural. Your dentist can use photographs (in a process called cosmetic imaging) and models to show you what to expect.

Sometimes, trial materials can be placed directly on your teeth to help you visualize the change. Ask your dentist what can be done to give you the smile you desire. With good home care and regular visits to your dentist, modern materials can last for many years, possibly decades.

Generally, cemented restorations such as crowns or veneers will require two visits: one to shape the teeth and one to cement the restorations to the teeth.

Between visits, your dentist can place attractive provisional restorations to help prevent sensitivity, allow limited function, and provide a nice smile. These temporaries are designed to be in your mouth for a limited time, but should be comfortable and natural looking until your new smile is completed.

There is no higher or lower incidence of tooth decay with veneers as long as they receive proper care. The expected lifetime of a porcelain veneer is somewhere between seven and 20 years.

Before you commit to any cosmetic dental treatment, you should have realistic expectations about what you can expect your results to look like.

Some dentists use advanced smile design software to provide patients with a personalized, realistic preview of their results. If you dislike anything about the preview, let your dentist know, and they can make adjustments. Cosmetic dentistry is an investment worth protecting!

Maintaining the results of some treatments requires that you make minor adjustments to your daily routine. For example, if you get porcelain veneers, you may need to switch to a less abrasive toothpaste so you do not accidentally scratch the porcelain.

However, cosmetic dentistry procedures involve more artistry and treatment outcomes can vary depending on the dentist selected.

The following questions can be used when consulting with a dentist about your cosmetic dentistry needs: What procedures would you recommend to improve my smile? It is best to begin the appointment describing the result you desire rather than giving a specific procedure you think would work best.

Can I see pictures of patients you have treated with this procedure? Most dentists performing cosmetic procedures will have before and after photographs readily available on a website and/or in a photo album. Some dentists may even provide a list of patient references for you to contact.
